New Action Design - Basics Spreadsheet
First sheet: Action Design Analysis
- Enter your piano datas:
- Brand, Model, Serial Number
- Number of sections
- First and last note number of each section
- String heights
- String angles
- Shank Lenghts
- Strings angles compared to the keybed
- Hammer head total lenght
- Actual Rake
- Actual Bored lengths
- The hammer center-pin height
- The wippen's type
- The pinblock height
The calculation will give you:
- The angle of the hammer with the strings.
- The tail lengths
- The number of notes per sections
- The first and last note of each section
- The recommended spread
- The recommended center-pins heights distance
Your datas will be used to calculate the second sheet.
2nd sheet: Hammers boring and weighting datas
- Enter the new hammer center-pin height. If the distance is too close to the pinblock height, the cell will light up red.
- Choose your over-centering: usually 0 to 3 millimeters
- Select your hammer strike weight or hammer weight curves (1 to 13).
- Choose your hammer total lengths according to the tail lengths
The following datas will be calculated:
- The bored lengths
- The rake (it takes into account the angle of the strings)
- The average tail lengths
3rd sheet: Hammer weighting
- Choose wether you prefer to work with strike weight or hammer's weight by selecting it.
- Enter your actual hammers weight or actual strike weight.
- It calculates how much weight you need to add or withdraw.
- You can also enter the number on your hammer head. It might differ from the actual note number.
4th sheet: Key's leveling
Enter the following datas according to the drawing.
- Key's horizontality: Select Horizontal down way, Horizontal Half Way, Horizontal at rest
- Key's front lever
- Key's dip
- Key's thickness without the key top
- Balance rail height on top of the punshing
- White Key top thickness
- The ebony thickness
- The overall black key thickness
It calculates:
- The white key's height at rest
- The black key's height at rest
- The key's angle at rest
5th sheet: Action Ratio, Strike Weight, and Leverage - Calculation
1. Action leverage
You need to measure:
- The hammer rise with a 6 mm key's dip
It calculates
- The action leverage for each key measured
2. Strike Weight Ratio
- Enter all your different weight
It calculates the strike weight ratio
3. Geometric ratio
- It calculates the geometric ratio according to the geometry of the parts
and even more features to come!
